The work of preparing our house for sale is now largely finished, so before I move west with my wonderful wife to be closer to our grandchildren, I’m taking the opportunity to release the last EP of my musical archives. This one goes back more than 30 years.
As a continuing part of my release of archived music, I put out another EP on Bandcamp. This one is a group of tracks I created in late 2012 and early 2013. I intended to release them formally, but never got there. One of the tracks I created during this period, “The Oceanic Feeling,” did make it to my Circadia album.
This release consists of four instrumental tracks. I went back and remixed the tracks, adding better quality piano sounds than what I had available at the time and better digital reverb. Please check it out below.
The next release in my “Lost Decades” series is coming for the next Bandcamp Friday, May 7, 2021. It’s Volume Two of the 2000s. This is a set of four instrumental tracks in a quieter vein than Volume One. For this project, I remastered all but one of the tracks to improve the sound quality.
I’m also preparing a “Lost Decades” collection of tracks from the 2010s and will talk more about that when I get closer to the release date, which I’m thinking will be later in May or maybe June.
“Lost Decades: The 2000s Volume One” is now available to purchase and download at my Bandcamp page. It’s a collection of EDM type music I created in the early 2000s. I took most of my inspiration at the time from some of the music Tangerine Dream put out in the the 1980s and 1990s. It’s very melodic.
I also have a smaller collection of music from the 2000s that is closer in style to what I’m working on now, and I plan to put that out soon as “Lost Decades: The 2000s Volume Two.” I also have some things I worked on in the 2010s that I may give the same treatment. Stay tuned.
I’ve been going through old music I’ve created over the years and am prepared to begin releasing it under the general category “Lost Decades.” I hope to drop “Lost Decades: The 2000s (Volume One)” very soon on Bandcamp. This first set of tracks will feature mostly EDM tracks I experimented with back then. I plan to follow that up with a collection of music I originally published under a different name, but with a similar style, and finally a third volume of quieter music.
Keep an eye on my Bandcamp page to sample and purchase the new tracks when they drop.
Today, I added a new tool to my toolbox. It’s the Hyperion multilayer synth, available from Tracktion. I will probably spend the rest of my life exploiting the capabilities of this amazing VST3 synth plugin, yet in 10 minutes I was able to produce a fantastic piece of dramatic ambient background music with it. Here’s a preview version of “On Pins and Needles.”
“On Pins and Needles (Dramatic Ambient Background Music)”
The bell tones, arpeggiated plucks and some of the pad tones are all produced by Hyperion. I also used a patch from my Alchemy plugin to create some additional atmospheric soundscape.
I’m releasing a new 5-track EP on February 5, 2021. The title will be Winter Calm. The new EP will be instrumental, ambient New Age music, with a soothing vibe, befitting the calm and stillness of wintertime.
The video for my new single “Lights from Distant Stars” is now online at YouTube. The single itself drops on November 20, 2020. Thanks to astrophotographer Mark Casto for providing the beautiful deep sky images to which the music is set.
